The Pessimist
The Pessimist
I could have been the head and not the tail
But I was too frightened to try and fail.
I was intimidated by the requirements of a first class
So I resolved to go for a gentle pass.
I could have given the world a mighty invention
But I feared my ideas would be met with ruthless
rejection.
I could have realized all the dreams I had as a child
If I had not grown to believe they were impossible and
wild.
In the end, I built my own insurmountable obstacles
The fears in my mind became inescapable manacles.
From all that I truly wanted, I eventually strayed
Uncertain
to win the mistress, I married the maid.
